Galvanized Before Welding (GBW) mesh is an affordable and flexible choice for various applications, from small projects to large ones. It involves coating steel wires with zinc before welding them into different mesh sizes, which enhances their durability by protecting against rust and corrosion. The range includes various wire thicknesses: lighter ones for small animal cages, ensuring safety and long-lasting use, and thicker ones for strong fences that provide solid barriers.
However, GBW mesh has a downside. The welding heat can remove the zinc coating at wire junctions, exposing the steel and making it vulnerable to moisture and quicker corrosion. This problem is less significant in indoor or covered settings where the mesh isn’t exposed to harsh elements. Choosing thicker wires can be beneficial for their stronger resistance to corrosion, helping to maintain the mesh’s integrity even if initial galvanization is compromised during welding.
